01/10 | Silent Auction of Design to Support Ottawa Neighbourhood Services

Industrial Design students have been busy this week re-designing, re-manufacturing, re-arranging and adding value to household items recently purchased at Ottawa Neighbourhood Services.

A silent auction for these items will be held in the foyer of Robertson Hall from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6. All proceeds from the auction will benefit Ottawa Neighbourhood Services. Come check out the great work of Carleton’s Industrial Design students and help support a worthwhile cause.

Since 1932 Ottawa Neighbourhood Services has been collecting, selling and distributing unwanted, second-hand and used items as a non-profit organization to aid those in need. It accomplishes this task through a network of collection boxes, which it sorts and sells from its central warehouse in city centre. It holds many other events and, aided by a group of volunteers, provides valuable service to the community.

See you in Robertson Hall!

08/09 | Carleton helps redesign Batawa, Ontario

Carleton University has teamed with the village of Batawa to create a sustainable community that Sonja Bata plans to develop as a model for the world.

As part of their 2009 summer course work, Carleton Architecture and Industrial Design students spent several weeks on site creating different visions, designs and prototypes for the village.

It’s the kind of unique collaboration – a “living laboratory” that Carleton and Batawa would like to expand so that every faculty in the university is involved in some way.
